WILLIAM SIMPSON BEAMON

W.S. BEAMON, SUFFOLK LEADER, PASSES AT 75

HEAD OF BEAMON’S, INC., PROMINENT IN CIVIC, CHURCH AFFAIRS

   Suffolk, Nov. 29 - William Simpson Beamon, Sr., 75, died at 7:30 a.m. today 
at the Young’s nursing home, Norfolk, after a long illness.

   He was president of Beamon’s Inc., a building supply firm, organized in 1900 
by the late Herbert H. Holland and himself. The firm was incorporated in the 
present name in 1948.

   He was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, where he served for 40 years 
as superintendent of the Sunday School. During this time he was one of those 
most instrumental in the erection of the educational building of the church.

   He was a charter member of past president of the Suffolk Rotary Club, past 
exalted ruler of the Suffolk Elks Club, member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge, No. 
30, the Khedive Shrine Temple, Norfolk, member of the Board of Directors of the 
Farmers Bank of Nansemond, and former member of the Suffolk School Board and the 
City Council.

   He was a son of the late Dr. John Richard Beamon, Jr. and Alida Norfleet 
Beamon, of Nansemond County.

   He is survived by two sons, William S. Beamon, Jr., and George V. Beamon, of 
Suffolk, and two daughters, Mrs. Gordan Edwards and Miss Ivy Beamon; a sister, 
Mrs. J.C. West, Jr., of Suffolk, and seven grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Suffolk 
Christian Church by the Rev. George D. Alley, pastor. Burial will be in Cedar 
Hill Cemetery.

   The body will be taken from the Baker Funeral Home to the church at 10 a.m.
