BOWERS BOWERS FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON Suffolk, Nov. 28 - Funeral services for Clyde M. Bowers, victim of a midnight attack from a Negro highwayman, on last Sunday morning, who died last night at Virginia Hospital of internal hemorrhage, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Main Street Methodist Church, by the pastor, Dr. George Wesley Jones, assisted by Dr. H.J. Goodwin of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be R.A. Bowles, Mills and Clinton Hingerty, W.B. Berkley, John Morgan, J.W. Tyler; friends of the family will serve as honorary pallbearers. Young Bowers, 29 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Bowers, of North Main Street, was returning home last Sunday morning at 1 o’clock, when he was accosted almost in front of his home by a Negro, demanding money. The Negro lunged at him with a knife, and Bowers, being unarmed, kicked him away, and called for help. His mother heard his cries, and ran to a front window, in time to see the Negro ran off, but not before he had stabbed Bowers twice in the left lung. The wounded man was taken to Virginia Hospital, where his condition was regarded as critical. With a meager description of the assailant, Police Chief Churn arrested in Boykins last night Wesley Couzens, who is charged with the murder of Bowers. Couzens had in his possession when arrested a long sharp knife answering to the description of the knife which Bowers and Mrs. Bowers saw in the hand of the man who struck young Bowers. Besides his parents, Mr. Bowers is survived by two brothers, Charles L. and W.H. Bowers, Jr., and two sisters, Mrs. C. H. Williams, of Portsmouth, and Mrs. J.V. Pritchard, of Suffolk. [Clyde M.
