Mrs. Byrd Dies Near Whaleyville 

  Mrs. Elmyra Harrell Byrd, wife of Nat W. Byrd, died last night at her home 
near Whaleyville following a brief illness.  She was the daughter of the late 
Leonidas and Mary C. Harrell. 

  Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Oliver, of 
Suffolk; two sons, Harold Byrd and Nat W. Byrd, Jr., of Nansemond county; one 
granddaughter, Betty Jean Oliver, of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Horace E. 
Savage, Sr., and Mrs. Ellie Stephenson, both of Nansemond county; three 
brothers, Joel E. Harrell, of Suffolk; Roscoe and Burgess Harrell, of 
Nansemond county; several nieces and nephews. 

  The body was taken to I.O. Hill and Company Funeral home where it will 
remain until 10 a.m., tomorrow, at which time it will be taken to Mrs. Byrd's 
late home near Whaleyville.  Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., 
tomorrow at Liberty Spring Christian church by Dr. I.W. Johnson.  Burial will 
be in the church cemetery.
