All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Hurcy [sic; Hersey] Byrd Buried Friday Funeral services for Hurcy Ovid Byrd, who died Wednesday morning at his home near Lake Prince, were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the R.W. Baker Company Funeral Home by the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. Mills Luter sang as a solo, "Sunrise," and a duet, "Beyond the Sunset," was sung by Mrs. Richard Solomon and Miss Mildred Johnson. Mrs. W.F. Whitley accompanied at the piano. Mr. Brittle read the poem "Crossing the Bar." The pall was of red roses and white chrysanthemums. Pallbearers were D.A. Gwaltney, Lafayette Gwaltney, Morrison Pope, Earl Johnson, Leroy Atkins and Joe M. Byrd, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Interment was in Bethlehem church cemetery. His parents, Joseph Henry & "Dallie" Mary Elexina (PIERCE) BYRD, are buried there in Lot 83. D.Cert. 25976 (Chuckatuck #334) gives Hurcy, son of Joseph M. His widow, Elsie Reva (UZZELL) BYRD 2m. Harry Eugene CORBETT (1891 - 1965) 23 Jan 1954, but they div., & she is buried with Hersey.
