A.K. Lambdin, assisted by Rev. N. B. Foushee of Sunbeam and Dr. W.W. Staley of Suffolk. There were many handsome floral designs and the active pallbearers were: J.V. Simmons, R.F. Boyette, C.R. Everett, L.L. Thorpe, G.B. Brett, E.W. Evans, F.R. Ellis and M.E. Barrett. Honorary pallbearers were selected from a large number of friends of the family. Mr. Barrett was born April 18, 1887, the son of Mrs. Nannie Story Barrett and the late Lucillius Barrett of the Newsoms community. He was a faithful attendant of Barnes M.E. Sunday school and a steward of the church until failing health caused him to retire. In April 1919, he married Miss Blanche Ellis of Suffolk who survives him with one son, Leroy Thomas Barrett, Jr., besides three sisters, Mrs. J.A. Brown and Mrs. L.E. Knowles of Suffolk and Mrs. T.E. Barrett of Norfolk and one brother, Lycurgus Barrett, of Suffolk, besides a large family connection and a wide circle of friends. Mr. Barrett was highly esteemed in his home neighborhood where he was an industrious farmer, a man who took an active interest in community affairs, and one of its best citizens. His courageous fight for several years to regain his health had enlisted the admiration and sympathy of everyone who knew him. His death occurring within only a few months of his brothers, Ernest Barrett of Franklin and Harry Barrett of the home community, makes his going an especially grievous bereavement upon the entire family.
