County Native L. M. Byrd, Dead 

  Funeral services for Lloyd Mearle Byrd, of Portsmouth, a native of Nansemond 
County, will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Snellings Funeral Home, 
Portsmouth.  Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. 

  Mr. Byrd, 81, husband of the late Mrs. Minnie T. Byrd of Portsmouth, died 
Thursday at 1 a.m. at the Obici Memorial Hospital after a long illness. 

  He was a member of Elm Street Church, Portsmouth, and had lived in 
Portsmouth most of his life. 

  He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Horace E. Pierce of Windsor; two 
granddaughters, Mrs. James C. Williams, Jr., of Portsmouth and Mrs. Jeff 
Grizzard of Falls Church; a half-sister, Mrs. Nora Armstrong of Newport News; 
three half-brothers, Harvey Byrd, and Lemuel Byrd of Newport News and Romie 
Byrd of Baltimore; six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
