He was the son of the late Lucillius [sic; Lucilius] and Nannie Story Barrett of Southampton County. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Byrdie Mae Barnes Barrett; a daughter, Mrs. William T. Brantley; two sons, Earl Calhoun Barrett and Harold Lycurgus Barrett, all of Suffolk; three sisters, Mrs. J.A. Brown and Mrs. Lewis Knowles, of Suffolk, and Mrs. T.E. Barrett, of Norfolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Barrett, who was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church and of the Men's Baraca Class of the church, had been connected with the Continental Life Insurance Company for the past 25 years. He was a member of Hiram Lodge No. 349, A.F. and A.M., and of the Mt. Nebo Royal Arch Chapter No. 20. The body was taken to the Baker Funeral Home where it will remain until 3:45 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at which time the funeral procession will leave for the Christian Church where services will be held at 4 o'clock. Dr. John G. Truitt, pastor will officiate, and burial is to be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** LYCURGUS BARRETT DIES IN SUFFOLK Lycurgus Barrett, 55, well-known business man of Suffolk and member of a prominent Southampton County family, died in Lakeview Hospital early Saturday morning, September 13, after a short illness form a heart attack. Mr. Barrett was a son of the late Lucillius [sic; Lucilius] and Nannie Story Barrett, and was born and reared in the Statesville section of this county. For a quarter of a century he was connected with the Continental Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church and of the Men's Baraca Class of that church of Suffolk Lodge No. 340, A.F.& A.M., and Mt. Nebo Royal Arch Chapter No. 20. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertie [sic*] Mae Barnes Barrett, a daughter, Mrs. William T. Brantley, and two sons, Earl Calhoun Barrett and Harold Lycurgus Barrett, all of Suffolk; three sisters, Mrs. J.A. Brown and Mrs. Lewis E. Knowles of Suffolk and Mrs. T.E. Barrett of Norfolk; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Barrett were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Suffolk Christian Church, Dr. John G. Truitt, pastor, officiating. Burial services, with Masonic rites, were held at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The active pallbearers were Mr. Barrett's business associates.
