LONNIE BYRD

   Lonnie Byrd, 72, life-long resident and retired farmer of Holland died 
Sunday morning, November 4, in Raiford Memorial Hospital after suffering a 
heart attack a few days before.

   Mr. Byrd was the husband of Mrs. Hattie Hollowell Byrd of Franklin, where 
both had made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Lucy Byrd Holland, for the 
past few months.  He was the son of the late Oliver and Lucy Jane Holland Byrd 
of Nansemond County, and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

   Besides his wife and daughter with whom he made his home, he is survived by 
another daughter, Mrs. Louvenia Byrd Blythe of Franklin; a son Stanley Byrd of 
Holland; six grandchildren; a brother, Lozzie Byrd of Holland, and a number of 
nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in Beaver 
Dam Baptist Church by Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, Jr., pastor.  Burial was in the 
family cemetery, near Holland.

   Active pallbearers were E.C. Williams, E.H. Whitley, Percy Whitley, S.O. 
Butler, R.L. Miles, J.M. Rountree, Emmitt Rawls, and Claude Hedgepeth.
