Raymond H. Phelts, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hill Funeral home to the church at 2 p.m. Mr. Byrd, 73, died unexpectedly Monday at 7:30 a.m. at his home in the Liberty Spring community in Nansemond County. A deacon of the Liberty Spring Christian Church, he taught a Sunday school class 20 years. He was a member of the Whaleyville Ruritan Club. He was a son of W.H. and Texanna Wright Byrd of Nansemond County. He is survived by his wife, Annie [sic; Amy] Austin Byrd; a daughter, Mrs. G.O. O'Berry of Harrellsville, N.C.; two sons, W. Harrell Byrd of Portsmouth and N.W. Byrd Jr. of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. J.A. Ellis of Suffolk and Mrs. C.L. Harris of Norfolk; two brothers, J.L. Byrd and J.P. Byrd of Nansemond County, and four grandchildren.
