NETTIE BYRD SUFFOLK, March 7. - Mrs. Nettie Byrd, wife of J.H. Byrd, of Suffolk, died at 1:30 p.m. yesterday in Baltimore, Md., after a long illness. The daughter of the late Jethro and Julian [sic; Julia Ann] Brinkley Franklin, of Nansemond County, she was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, a charter member of the Ladies' Benevolent and Social Union, and Woman's Missionary Society of the church. For many years she was owner of a hat shop in Suffolk. Mrs. Byrd is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. J.P. Shearer, of Washington, D.C.; a son, Ralph H. Byrd, of Evanston, Ill., and a sister, Miss Dianah [sic; Diana] Franklin, of Richmond. Funeral services wil be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Baker Funeral Home with Dr. John G. Truitt officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
