All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ TEXANNA ELIZABETH WRIGHT BYRD Rites Today For Mrs. Texana [sic; Texanna] Byrd Funeral services for Mrs. Texana Wright Byrd, 90 [sic; 89], who died Saturday night at 10 o'clock at the home of her son, J. Pressley Byrd, at Harrell's Siding, Nansemond County, and with whom she made her home, were to be conducted this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by the Rev. R.E. Brittle and Dr. I.W. Johnson at the Bethlehem Christian Church. Mrs. Byrd was the widow of the late William Henry Byrd of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Sarah Powell Wright of Nansemond county. She celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary in 1938, a short time before the death of her husband. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.A. Ellis of Suffolk and Mrs. C.L. Harris of Norfolk; three sons, N.W., J.L. and J.P. Byrd, all of Nansemond County; one sister, Mrs. Mary F. Hyers of Portsmouth; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Byrd was the oldest member of the Bethlehem Christian Church and a charter member of the Ladies' Aid and Missionary Society of the church. The body was taken to the Hill Funeral Home, where it is to remain until 3 o'clock this afternoon. At this time, the funeral procession is to leave the Funeral Home for the Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial was to take place in the church cemetery.
