Bradford, a Norfolk attorney, died this morning at 1:45 a.m. at the Norfolk General Hospital after an illness of a few hours. A resident of Town Point, Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Dr. J.O. Atkinson and Emma Williamson Atkinson, of Elon College, N.C. Surviving, in addition to hrr husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Bernard W. Godwin, Jr., of Suffolk, and Miss Russell Adelia Bradford of Town Point, Nansemond County; a brother, J.O. Atkinson, of Norfolk: two sisters, Mrs. W.E. McCardell, of New Oreleans, La., and Mrs. J. Davis Reed, of Princess Anne County; and a number of nieces and nephews. An honor graduate of Elon College, N.C., she later studied at the New England Conservatory, in Boston, Mass., after which she made her home at Town Point with her aunt, Mrs. Willis J. Lea. She was a member of the Berea Congregational Christian Church at Driver, where she had served for numerous years as organist and choir director, president of the woman's Auxiliary of the church, teacher of the Young peoples' Class for the past 20 years, a member of the finance committee and president of the district conference of the church and of the Woman's Board and Missionary Conference. At the time of her death she was first vice-president of the Garden Club of Virginia and very active in the organization, having served as horticultural chairman and publicity director; a member of the board of directors and a past president of the Nansemond River Garden Club. She was a woman of rare personality and charm. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Berea Congregational Christian Church with Dr. H.S. Hardcastle officiating. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Bradford, her daughter, Miss Russell Bradford, and Miss Carroll Godwin, were hostesses at a luncheon at the Bradford home in honor of Miss Annah Eberwine, Portsmouth debutante. It is reported that Mrs. Bradford was taken ill soon after giving the party. [photo, captioned:] Mrs. Russell T. Hardcastle, pastor, and Dr. I.W. Johnson. Active pallbearers were Vernon G. Eberwine, Barron Black, Colgate W. Darden, Charles B. Godwin, Jack W. Nurney, Jr., T.H. Birdsong, Jr., Jodie C. Mathews and Kenneth E. Brinkley. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers. ****************************************************************************** Rites Held For Mrs. Jennie Bradford Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Willis Atkinson Bradford, of Town Point. Nansemond County, who died early Thursday morning at the Norfolk General Hospital, were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Berea Congregational Christian Church. The services were conducted by Dr. H.S. Hardcastie, church pastor, and Dr. I.W. Johnson. Interment took place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. J.R. Vick, accompanied by Mrs. I.W. Johnson, sang "My Jesus, I Love Thee." The pall was of red roses, gardenias and yew. Pallbearers were Vernon G. Eberwine, Barron F. Black, Colgate W. Darden. Charles B. Godwin, Jack W. Nurney, Jr., T.H. Birdsong, Jr., Jodie C. Mathews and Kenney E. Brinkley.
