SARAH ELIZABETH WEST BIRDSONG

   Durham, N.C. - Elizabeth West Birdsong, 84, a native of Suffolk, died Feb. 
20, 1989, in a nursing home.

   She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church, Suffolk, and was a 
former member of the Suffolk Book Club and Riverview Garden Club.

   Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth B. Joyner of Durham; a son, H. 
Franklin Birdsong, Jr. of Suffolk; a sister Virginia W. Reid of Suffolk; seven 
grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

   The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Oxford United Methodist, 
Suffolk, by the Rev. John Hoke and Robert Spivey.  Burial will be in Cedar 
Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling 
arrangements.  Friends may join the family at the home of H. Franklin Birdsong, 
Jr., 515 Riverview Drive, Suffolk.

   Memorial donations may be made to the church.
