Suffolk, Va., March 16. - Mrs. Rena Cox Bradshaw, wife of Robert E. Bradshaw, died on Sunday, which had been named as the wedding day of her oldest daughter, Miss Alice Essie Bradshaw. Mrs. Bradshaw was 41 years of age. She had been ill only a short time, and the end was sudden and particularly sad. The funeral took place this afternoon at Hobson, Va., 16 miles from Suffolk, and the services were conducted by Rev. I.W. Johnson. The burial was at Wesley Chapel Methodist church in Chuckatuck, the following being pall-bearers: J.T. Johnson, T.H. Beale, G.W. Spady, William Hackney, T.E. Harrell and W.E. Mason. The deceased is survived by a husband and six children - Alice Essie, Shirley B., Paul C., Lina Marie, William Thomas and Ruth Eley. She was a daughter of John W. Cox and a sister of Willie T. Cox, of Charlotte, N.C.; Charles W. Cox, Hampton, and Mrs. R.H. Rush, Norfolk. Miss Alice Essie Bradshaw and Mr. W.H. Harrell were to have been married Sunday. The girl's father had objected to the wedding, but her mother gave her consent, and they expected to wed Sunday. The marriage did not occur, but will probably be celebrated within a few days. ****************************************************************************** Bradshaw. Mrs. Rena Cox Bradshaw was born September 24, 1866. She was the daughter of John W. and Alice Ray Cox. On Feb. 23, 1887, she was married to Mr. Robert E. Bradshaw. She died at her home near Hobson, Va., Sunday, March 15, 1908. She leaves six children. Alice Essie, Shirley D., Paul C., Lina Marie, Wm. Thomas, and Ruth Eliz. Two half-brothers, Willie T. and Charles W. Cox, and one half-sister, Mrs. R.H. Rush, survive her. Sister Bradshaw was a consistent member of Western Branch Baptist church. She was faithful and attentive to the work of the Master, and won for herself many kind friends. Her funeral was conducted at Hobson Christian church, and her remains were buried at Wesley Chapel, Chuckatuck, Va. May the Lord bless and comfort the bereaved family. I.W. Johnson. She appears in the 1880 Census in Chuckatuck Dist., Nansemond Co., age 13; enumerated with her father & step-mother. The 1900 Census - Windsor Dist., Isle of Wight Co. - gives b. Sep 1867. Her husband (1862/3 - 1939) 2m. widow "Pattie" Martha John (AVIS McABEE) ELEY 18 Jun 1918 in Suffolk, but Pattie was accidentally shot & killed by her son Alton ELEY 12 Oct 1918. He is buried in Windsor Cemetery. Libbie (1855 - 1921) 2m. widower Wilbur B. PRUDEN ca. 1883. She is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk.
