Funeral services for Neb Burden were conducted today at 4 p.m. in Hill Funeral Home by Dr. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church, and the Rev. James H. Tate, pastor of Wilroy Baptist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Knox, Peyton Marshal, Clyde Johnson, Edgar Knight, C.F. Vick, Jack Munford [sic; Mumford], Charles Russell, J.B. Spivey, James Pinner and O.L. Duval. Mr. Burden, 72, of 1332 Wilroy Road, died Saturday at 11:30 p.m. in his home. A native of Bertie County, N.C., he was a son of George Eugene and Mrs. Bettie Harris [sic; Harriss] Burden and the husband of Mrs. Ellen Smith Burden. He was a member of Whaleyville Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Burden Terry of Aulander, N.C., and Mrs. Waldemar C. Weis of Portsmouth; a son, Roy C. Burden of Suffolk; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Whitley of Harrellsville, N.C., Mrs. Ella Lassiter of Portsmouth and Mrs. Ludie Ward of Aulander; a brother, Eugene Burden of Ahoskie, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
