Barton Violet Rose Barton, 89, of Windsor, died Wednesday, 20 June 2001 in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Suffolk, she was the widow of Walter E. Barton Sr., and a daughter of the late Carlos F. Rose and Lillie Powell Rose. She was predeceased by three sisters, Daisy R. Salmon, Pansy R. Burns, and Marguerite R. Smith. She had retired from the Personnel Department at Planters after 28 years of service. She was a member of Windsor Baptist Church, its Class No. 3, formerly the L.T. Hall Bible Class. She was formerly a member of the Women's Missionary Union and the Women's Christian Temperance, Sedley Chapter. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy B. Harvell of Suffolk; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter E. Barton Jr. and Phyllis H. Barton of Sedley; a granddaughter, Nancy Anne B. Alstatt, and her husband, Jason W. Altstatt, of Sedley; a grandson, Phillip E. Barton of Sedley; two great grandchildren, Tyler W. Altstatt and Jillian Rose Altstatt of Sedley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday 23 June 2001 in Hill Funeral Home with Rev. David L. Johnson Sr., and her grandson, Phillip E. Barton, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday 22 June 2001 in the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of Walter E. Barton Jr., 18144 Rosemont Rd., Sedley. Memorial may be made to the Windsor Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 498, Windsor, Va. 23487. Hill Funeral Home is serving the family.
