BROWN, 78, FORMER ROAD SUPERINTENDENT Suffolk - William Henry [sic; Homer*] Brown, 78, of 1026 Pennsylvania Ave. retired highway department superintendent, died in Obici Memorial Hospital Friday at 9:30 a.m. after a week’s illness. He worked for the Virginia Department of Highways from 1924 to 1956, when he retired as equipment repair superintendent. A native of Glenville, [sic; Greenville*] N.C., he was a son of Dr. A.E. Brown and Mrs. Amanda Whitaker Brown of Asheville. He was a member of First Baptist and Elk Lodge 685. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marie Nelson Rice Brown; a stepson, Rodney E. Rick of Hyattsville, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Gossert of Asheville and Mrs. Jessie Green of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a brother, Mack Brown of Asheville; and six grandchildren. A funeral services will be conducted in Hill Funeral Home Monday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. J.C. Mitchell of First Baptist Church and the Rev. C. Bailey Jones of West End Baptist Church.
