It is said that he rested fairly well last night, however the doctors are still uncertain as to the outcome of his illness. ****************************************************************************** BURGESS BRINKLEY LOSES TO DEATH AFTER LONG FIGHT Popular Suffolk High School Senior Yields Battle to Grim Reaper Following Illness of Weeks Which He Endured Valiantly. Marvin Burgess Brinkley, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira P. Brinkley, died at his home on Chestnut street last night at 6 o'clock, after a valiant but losing fight against blood poisoning which he contracted over four weeks ago. Suffolk high school Jefferson school will be closed at 1:30 tomorrow as a token of respect to Burgess who was president of the senior Class, captain of the basketball team, chairman of the high school annual board, a member of the staff of the "Peanut Hull," an outstanding athlete and one of the most popular students of the school. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Ira P. Brinkley, Jr., and Pretlow M. Brinkley; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Phillip Brinkley, and his maternal grandfather, D.J. Murphy, and the following aunts and uncles: Oscar Brinkley, of Roanoke; P.S. Brinkley, Mrs. Andrew Tyree, Mrs. J.E. Crocker, Mrs. Lydia M. Watkins and Miss Hattie Murphy, all of Suffolk; P.H. Murphy, of Rescue, and L.M. Murphy, of Newport News. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 from the Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. H.S. Hardcastle, assisted by the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. Dr. H. E. Cromer. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mac Birdsong, Richard Pond, W.T. Pond, Fred Pollard, Jacob Woodward, Harry Murphy, Charles Wilson and A.D. Brinkley, Jr. All senior students, both boys and girls, will act as an escort for the body. Friends of the family have been asked to act as honorary pallbearers.
