Brinkley, who lives in the country near Nurneyville, was thrown from a horse Sunday night, sustaining fatal injuries, Mr. Brinkley had been to church riding a young and wild horse, which his father had warned him was dangerous. When returning the animal became frightened and unmanageable and threw its rider to the ground with such force as to fracture the skull. Mr. W. Byrd, who had also attended church, passed soon afterward and discovered the young man lying prostrate in the road and unconscious. Aid was summoned and the limp form removed to his (Byrd's) home, where all possible attention was rendered. In the meantime the riderless horse had arrived at his stable and the injured man's brother, noticing his absence, retraced post haste the road leading to the church and soon located Charlie at Byrd'a residence lying unconscious, the blood oozing from his ears. He then came to Suffolk, eight miles distant, where he arrived shortly after midnight, and summoned Dr. C.J. Riddick to the injured man's bedside. He was yet living when the doctor arrived, but never regained his speech, dying yesterday at 10 a.m. A sad gloom has been cast over the community by the terrible incident. ****************************************************************************** The funeral of Charles Brinkley, the young man who died Monday as a result of injuries received from being thrown by a horse, occurred yesterday near Nurneysville.
