John C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Mitchell read Tennyson's poem "Crossing the Bar." Mrs. J. Webb Pinner, Jr., played an organ solo, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." The casket was covered with a pall of red roses and white carnations. Pallbearers were Claude Boykins, Elmer Mitchell, Ferrell Joynes, Marvin Williams, Harvey Williams, Foy Smith, Andrew Boyce and Letcher Stanley.
