BRINLEY DEAD AT 66 Suffolk Business Leader Succumbs Suffolk, May 20 - Preston Sidney Brinkley, 66, founder of the P.S. Brinkley Ice Company and one of the pioneer lumbermen of Suffolk, died at his home in Franklin Street this morning at 6 o'clock after a brief illness from a heart attack. Mr. Brinkley was a son of the late Philip Brinkley and Mrs. Armesia Brinkley and was a member of Main Street Methodist church and a member of the Fellowship Bible Class of the church. At the time of his death, he was connected with the American Lumber Company. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Addie Mitchell Brinkley; three daughters, Miss May Brinkley, Mrs. Wellons Caulk and Miss Helen Brinkley, all of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. James E. Crocker and Mrs. Andrew Tyree; two brothers, Ira P. Brinkley of Suffolk and Oscar Brinley of Lakeland, Fla., and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home and Sunday morning at 11 o'clock will be carried to the Brinkley residence in Franklin Street. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the residence by the Rev. A.L. Franklin, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** P.S. BRINKLEY, 66, DIES EARLY TODAY WAS ILL SHORT TIME, LAST RITES SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT RESIDENCE Preston Sidney Brinkley, age 66, a prominent resident of this city, and son of the late Mrs. and Mrs. Philip Brinkley, died at his home 120 Bank Street, this morning at 6 o'clock after a short illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Mitchell Brinkley, and three daughters, Miss May Brinkley, Mrs. Wellons, Caulk, and Miss Helen Brinkley, all of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. J.E. Crocker and Mrs. R.A. Tyree, both of Suffolk; two brothers, Ira Brinkley, of Suffolk, and Oscar Brinkley, of Lakeland, Fla; also several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brinkley was one of the pioneer lumbermen of this city, and has been connected with the American Lumber Company for the past several years, he was also the founder of the Brinkley Ice Company. He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church, and a member of the Fellowship Bible Class. The body was taken to the funeral home of I.O. Hill and Company, where it will remain until 11 o'clock Sunday morning, at which time it will be taken to his late residence, where funeral services will be held at 4:30 o'clock conducted by Dr. A.L. Franklin. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** HOLD LAST RITES FOR P. S. BRINKLEY Conducted Sunday at Residence By Rev. Franklin, Buried in Cedar Hill Funeral services for Preston Sydney Brinkley, prominent resident of this city, were conducted Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, at the residence, 130 Franklin St., by the Rev. A.L. Franklin, pastor of the Main Street Methodist church. The church choir accompanied by Miss Margaret Batten sang the hymns, "How Firm a Foundation" and "Sometime We'll Understand." There were many handsome floral tributes and the casket was covered with a pall of Easter lilies and pale pink roses. Active pallbearers were Pretlow Brinkley, Philip Crocker, Jack W. Nurney, Dr. G. Richardson Joyner, Walter F. Story, Thomas Adkins. Willis E. Cohoon, Mills A. Riddick, John C. Eley, and Lawson Eley. Friends, neighbors, and business associates served as honorary pallbearers. Interment was made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
