BRYANT, WAR VET, DIES Succumbs to Long Illness This Morning At Naval Hospital; Funeral Here Tomorrow Afternoon. James S. Bryant, aged 38, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Bryant, 113 Morgan street and a veteran of the World War, died at the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth this morning. He had been ill for more than a year. Funeral services will be held from the home of his parents tomorrow afternoon and burial will be made at Cedar Hill cemetery. The Rev. H.S. Hardcastle, pastor of the Christian Church, will be in charge of the service. The hour of the funeral has not been set. Surviving Mr. Bryant are his widow, Mrs. Marie Pierce Bryant and five children; James S., Jr., Virginia, Carl Bruce and Anita; his parents; two sisters, Mrs. J.A. Foster and Mrs. Willis E. Cohoon, and a brother, Robert V. Bryant, all of Suffolk. Mr. Bryant was serving in the army at the declaration of war and continued during the conflict as a machine gunner. Following the war he made his home at Johnstown, Pa. On a trip to California he was injured and returned to his former home here. He had been a patient at the Naval Hospital for about eighteen months. His widow, Violet Marie (PIERCE BRYANT BROWN McNIDER; Mrs. Lawrence O.) BAINES (1901 - 1983), is buried in Block H, Lot 10.
