All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Novella Barnhill, Teacher, Is Dead Miss Novella Dora Barnhill, teacher in the Suffolk Schools for the past 45 years, died today at 1 a.m. at Obici Memorial Hospital after an illness of two weeks. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hill Funeral Home to the church at 2:45 p.m. Friday. A graduate of Madison College, Harrisonburg, she was a member of the Suffolk Education Assn. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Virginia Wingo business Women's Circle of the Woman’s Missionary Union of the church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 57, Suffolk. Miss Barnhill was the first student to receive a diplomat at Driver School. The diploma was presented to her by Governor Mann of Virginia. She was the daughter of Mrs. Ida Johnson Barnhill of Suffolk and the late Edgar Barnhill. Besides her mother, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. T.A. Felton of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Edgar W. Barnhill of Greenville, N.C.; Sidney J. Barnhill of the home, Luther T. Barnhill of Newport News, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hill Funeral Home to the church one hour before the service.
