Cobb, 80, Buried Sept. 11 In Holly Lawn Cem. Mrs. Agnes Alvis Cobb, wife of the Rev. J. Sydney Cobb, retired Baptist minister, of Windsor, died Friday, September 8 at 8:45 A.M. in the Obici Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth R. Alvis of Caroline County, Va. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, James Sydney Cobb Jr. of Windsor and Thurman Alvis Cobb; two brothers, Frank Alvis of Richmond and Stuart Alvis of Mangohick, Va.; five sisters, Ella Smith of Richmond; Mrs. Ruth Wright of Palmyra, Va.; Mrs. Jessie Coates of Ashland; Miss Elizabeth Alvis of Mangohick; and Mrs. Annie Hart of Ashland; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 11 at 2:30 P.M. at the Baker Funeral Home and burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. Sally Agnes (ALVIS; Mrs. J. Her father, William James ALVIS (1843 - 1910), was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. C, 14th VA Infantry. His widow "Nannie" Harriett (YOUNG) ALVIS applied for a pension 28 Jun 1932 in King William Co.
