J. Costen Succumbs to 14-Year Illness During Early Morning; Burial Set For Wednesday Afternoon. Mrs. Bertha Evelyn Brinkley Costen, widow of L.J. Costen, died early today. Mrs. Costen had been an invalid for the past fourteen years. Mrs. Costen is survived by a son, Clyde Allan [sic; Allen] Costen, and a daughter, Miss Jacque Costen, of Suffolk; two step-sons, Prof. Rufus Costen, of Charlottesville, and Lonnie Costen, of Washington; a sister, Mrs. L.D. Walls, of Suffolk; and a brother, Homer Brinkley, of Suffolk. Mrs. Costen was the daughter of the late Jackson R. Brinkley and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brinkley. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon and burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery.
