All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Prominent Holland Woman Succumbs Mrs. Ellie Hall Cutchins [sic; Cutchin], 78, prominent resident of the Holland community, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John A. Rawls, near here, after an illness of several days. Mrs. Cutchins was the widow of John Oliver Cutchins and the daughter of the late Rufus C. and Roxanna Johnson Hall, of Nansemond County. Besides Mrs. Rawls, Mrs. Cutchins is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. W.W. Darden, of Holland; Mrs. W.J. Cross, Jr., of Franklin and Mrs. P.R. Clark, of Stoney Creek; three sons, J. Arthur Cutchins, of Norfolk; Tom Barnes Cutchins, of Whiteville, N.C., and J. Oliver Cutchins, Jr., of Holland; 16 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, A.E. Hall, of Hampton, and C. Wesley Hall, of Suffolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons, Franklin, by the Rev. W.B. Watson. K, 41st VA Infantry, rising from private to sergeant. He d. 14 Jan 1915 in Norfolk. Her mother Arlethia Roxanna JOHNSON, daughter of Lawrence JOHNSON & his first wife Lucy Ann McCLENNY, 1m. Richard R. STALLINGS, son of Wiley & Nancy, 28 Mar 1861 in Nansemond Co. (#14). He enlisted in Co. I, 41st VA Infantry, 24 Feb 1862, and d. of disease 20 Dec 1862. She 2m. Rufus 4 Jan 1866 in Gates Co., NC. "Mrs. Roxanna E. Hall" applied for a pension for Rufus' service 9 May 1916 in Norfolk. She was b. 22 Jun 1840 in Nansemond Co., d. 2 Mar 1923 in Norfolk, and was buried 5 Mar 1923 at South Quay by H.D. Oliver.
