Cutchins, in your last issue was received with universal regret. Mrs. Cutchins was retiring in her nature, and this coupled with delicate health caused her to be seldom seen on public occasions, and yet she was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. Is life worth living finds an easy solution in her pilgrimage of eighty-two years on earth. To aid her husband, and rear her children for positions of usefulness in life, was to her a solemn duty, but she did not stop here; to be a neighbor and help the helpless were characteristics in her life that will be remembered. Her life was Christian by professions and practice. Her home was genuinely hospitable, and her large circle of relatives and friends will not forget her kindness. She was for about sixty years a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where her name will be held in sweet remembrance. Her memory of social and religious events rendered her an interesting conversationalist, and keeping in the current of life she never grew old. For the past month she had been a great sufferer, but her physicians were constantly at her side to do for her relief, until the evening of the 3rd of October, like an infant falling asleep she passed to rest. Her funeral largely attended took place on the evening of the 4th inst., with services by her pastor, Rev. W.G. Clarke aided by Rev. J.M. Jones, and then we laid her to rest in the old homestead cemetery, near Elwood, Virginia. Her grandsons viz. were pallbearers: Robert Rawls, Randolph Rawls, Sol Rawls, Jack Cutchins, John A. Rawls, J.P. Jones, J.R.L. Johnson and Dr. C.J. Bradshaw, Canary Dr. Thomas H. Barnes and Messrs. Robert R. Daughtry, W.C. Peele, W.H. Jenkins, John D. Robertson and A. Edwards. She leaves six children, Hon. Joel Cutchins, of Roanoke, Mr. C.A. Cutchins of Franklin, Col. Sol Cutchins of Richmond and J.G. Cutchins of Nansemond and two daughters, Mrs. Robt. Rawls and Mrs. John Cutchins. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren and foster children number forty-six. Trecy* Jane (HOLLAND; Mrs. John A.)
