James Alexander Cheatham died as a result of apoplexy last night at 8:45 o'clock at the home of his son, Alexander Cheatham in Norfolk, in the 61st year of his age. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Alexander and Richard Cheatham, both of Norfolk; two daughters, Mrs. Fenton Coulbourne, of Corapeake, N.C., and Miss Lucille Cheatham, of Suffolk; one brother, Howard Cheatham, of Lynchburg; two sisters, Mrs. J.M. Browning and Mrs. Jennie B. Ward, both of Burlington, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cheatham was born in Ridgeway, N.C., and as a young man there began his career in the employ of the S.A.L. Railroad. He remained with them 43 years. He left Ridgeway to become agent at Magnolia, in Nansemond county, and from that point came to Suffolk where for a period of many years he was agent here. Two years ago his health began to fail and he obtained a leave of absence from the railroad in an effort to recover. Mr. Cheatham had dinner with the family of his son yesterday evening and retired early, apparently in good spirits, but died shortly after going to his bed. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence, 117 Wellons street, tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock, by the Rev. C.E. Pleasants, pastor of Oxford M.E. Church. Mr. Cheatham had been a member and a steward of Oxford church since it was founded. Active pallbearers will be Felix Brinkley, Julius Lassiter, Sidney Davis, Archie Brothers, William P.
