All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM FREDERICK COTTEN PROMINENT RESIDENT OF CHUCKATUCK IS DEAD William Frederick Cotten*, 80, for many years a prominent resident of the Chuckatuck neighborhood, died at the his residence, "Cypress Vale," at noon Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Corbell Cotten, a brother, Joel H. Cotten, of Portsmouth; two sons, W. Jasper Cotten and D. Corbell Cotten, both of Nansemond County; two daughters, Mrs. E. Thompkins, of Powhatan, and Mrs. Mary Underwood, of Richmond; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Old St. John's church, near Chuckatuck, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by the rector, the Rev. E.P. Miner. Burial took place in the family lot in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Charlie Pitt, Leroy Pope, Herbert Hall, Sidney Ellis, C.B. Godwin, F.C. Moore, Dr. L.L. Eley and J.T. Stallings.
