All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ World War Veteran Dies in Hospital Daniel Woodie Collum, 47, of Suffolk, a veteran of World War I, died in the Veterans Hospital at Kecoughtan, Va., after an illness of five months. His death occurred at 7:50 p.m. yesterday. Collum, a saw filer employed at Norfolk, was injured in the war when a torpedo struck the U.S.S. Mt. Vernon, a troopship on which he was stationed. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emily Legare Collum, three daughters, Mildred, Hazel, and Margaret Collum, a sister, Mrs. Florence Bordeaux and a brother, J. Thomas Collum, of Wrightsville, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, and the Twentieth Century Baracca Class. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral home. Arrangements for the services were to be completed later. Mr. and Mrs. Herman K. Legare, brother and sister-in-law to Mrs. Collum, arrived today from Dundalk, Md., to attend the services.
