Daniel James Clark, a driver for Sealtest, was found wounded at 12:20 a.m. this morning in his room at 109 Chestnut St. Suffolk Police A/Sgt. E.R. Raby and Officer G.A. Barrett reported that T.W. Barrett, who also rooms at 109 Chestnut St., had been watching television until about 11 p.m. and when he went to bed he heard someone trying to get his breath. He discovered Clark, and the police were called. According to police reports, Clark was seen yesterday at about 7 p.m. at Sam Perry's Bar-B-Que on Rt. 460 with his wife, Mrs. Ingeberg [sic; Ingeborg*] Clark, from whom Clark was separated. She lives at Rt. 4, Box 744-D (Murphey's Mill Rd.). Clark was alive when police arrived at the house where they found him on the floor near the bed. A .22 caliber pistol was on the blood-stained bed, along with five rounds of bullets. There was one spent shell in the pistol, police said. The Suffolk-Nansemond Rescue Squad reported to the scene and carried Clark to Louise Obici Hospital and later to Norfolk General Hospital. He died there at 2:10 a.m. today. The bullet wound was in the right temple, police reported. Mrs. J.M. Wilson, landlady at the Chestnut St. rooming house, reported that she went to bed at about 9 p.m. and did not hear any noises or shots fired. The body will be taken to R.W.
