Cones were conducted at 11 a.m. this morning at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home by Dr. H.J. Goodwin and the Rev. John P. Batkins. A quartet composed of Mrs. Claudia Jacobs, Mrs. Paul Rawles, T. Byron Cutchins and W.J. Work, accompanied by Mrs. W.J. Work, sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." The casket was covered by a pall of white gladioli and pink roses. Active pallbearers were Jack Duck, S.J. Dundelow, C.M. Mizzell, Dan McClenny, M.M. Lowe, C.B. DeFord, J.H. Costin and Harry Redd. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Interment was in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. Annie Eliza "Tissie" (HOWELL; widow of Emmett Lafayette "Fate") TURNER (1876 - 1935) 30 Sep 1922 in Norfolk. (Suffolk M.Reg. '22 p. 3 #11), but apparently they divorced or had an annulment. Annie TURNER appears in the 1930 Census - 207 York St., Suffolk - as widowed. She buried as Annie L. "Effie" Ethel Lee (WHEELHOUSE HARVELL) BENNETT (1895 - 1947) June 25, 1938 in DC. She 4m. a CARTER, and is buried in Maury Cemetery, Richmond.
