Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Whitley Council; two daughters, Mrs. Harriet Council Mead, of Florida, and Mrs. Edith Council Macauley, of New York City; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Weaver, of Norfolk; one brother, U.M. Council, of Richmond and two grandchildren. Funeral rites will be held at 3:30 P.M. Sunday at R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Hutson Council [sic; Councill] Funeral To Be Held on Sunday Mr. Hutson Council, 71, died at his home Thursday night at 10 o'clock. He was the son of the late Joseph Godwin and Indiana Davis Council of Isle of Wight County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ollie Whitley Council, two daughters, Mrs. Harriet Council Meade of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Edith Council Macaulay of New York City, two grandsons, William and Charles Meade; one brother, W.M. Council; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Weaver of Norfolk. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 30 and Mt. Nebo Royal Arch Chapter No. 20. He was a Spanish-American War Veteran and had made his home in Suffolk for the past twenty-five years. Funeral services will be held at Baker's Funeral Home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., by Rev. J. Lester Lane, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************** HUTSON COUNCILL Hutson Councill, 71, for many years a resident of Franklin, died unexpectedly last Thursday night, March 11, at ten o'clock at his home on Clay Street, Suffolk, following a heart attack. He was the son of the late Joseph Godwin Councill and Indiana Davis Councill of Isle of Wight County, the old Councill homestead being located only a short distance from the site of Camp Manufacturing Company's present paper mill. In his youth he learned the machinist's trade in the Company's machine shop, and he followed that trade as long as he remained in Franklin. He moved to Suffolk about twenty-five years ago, and at the time of his death was in the employ of the Suffolk Iron Works. He served as a lieutenant in the Spanish-American War. In Suffolk he was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Causey Camp of Veterans of the Spanish-American War, Mount Nebo Royal Arch Chapter No. 20 and Suffolk Lodge No. 3, A.F.& A.M. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Whitley Councill of Suffolk; two daughters, Mrs. Harriett Councill Mead of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Edith Councill Macauley of New York; two grandchildren; one brother, U.M. Councill of Richmond; and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Weaver of Norfolk. He was the uncle of Mrs. Henry Duck, Mrs. Clyde Eley and J.D. Fowler, all of Franklin. Funeral services for Mr. Councill were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home, Suffolk, with Rev. J. Lester Lane officiating, followed by burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Services at the grave were in charge of A.F. & A.M. Lodge 3. The casket was covered with an American flag. Pallbearers were T.O. Palmer, Russell Councill, Willard Councill, Godwin Councill, Redwood Councill, Jack Fowler, Lewis Cahoon, R.R. Harrell and Wood Ballard. Honorary pallbearers were Spanish-American War veterans.
