COUNCIL Died at the age of 75, at the home of her niece, Mrs. B.C. Eley, near Exchange, on the 23rd of January, Miss Mary L. Council, daughter of the late G.W. Council and Martha Council, a niece of Dr. Thos. H. Barnes, a popular physician and Senator, late of Suffolk, Va. She leaves one brother, Claudius Council, a niece, Mrs. B.D. Eley, with whom she made her home, and who watched over her anxiously and cared for her tenderly and lovingly for years, one nephew, F. Lloyd Butler, three great nieces and three great nephews. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church for many years, and her funeral was conducted there by her pastor, Rev. G.R. Parker. She was sick only a few days and all that loving relative and friends could do to prolong her life, proved futile. She passed away peacefully and no doubt is enjoying the rest prepared for the saints above. The melancholy tidings of the sad and unexpected death of this lively type of Christian womanhood spread rapidly over the surrounding country and cast a gloom of sadness over the faces and hearts of numerous friends and relatives. In the character of the deceased, those who knew her best, saw most conspicuously the elements that point to the good, the true, and the beautiful. She was a noble, generous woman, and found pleasure in abiding the needy, and in giving comfort and pleasure to the sick and afflicted. May God’s grace console and cheer the bereaved relatives and by and by we hope to meet the sainted one in the beautiful beyond. "There is no death, the stars go down, To rise upon some distant shore, And bright in heaven’s jeweled crown, They shine forevermore." - A FRIEND.
