All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Mrs. Cameron Dies On Friday Mrs. Lina Lassiter Cameron of St. Petersburg, Fla., a native of Nansemond County, died Friday in St. Anthony Hospital in St. Petersburg. She was superintendent of Public Welfare in Princess Anne County for many years and when she retired she was superintendent of Public Welfare in Warrenton. She had lived in Florida for the past nine years. She was the daughter of the late William Amos Lassiter and Mrs. Nancy Darden Lassiter of Nansemond County. She is survived by a son, James Otis Wright of Birmingham, Mich.; one grandson; one granddaughter; and three sisters, Mrs. Malbon Joyner of Nansemond County and Mrs. A.W. Craft and Mrs. Ruth Lawshe of Virginia Beach. The body will be brought to Baker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Baker Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles L. Landrum, pastor of Suffolk Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** MRS. LINA CAMERON REDINGTON BEACH (Special) - - Mrs. Lina Cameron, 72, of 16400 Gulf Blvd, died Monday in a St. Petersburg hospital. A native of Nansemond County, Va., she came here nine years ago from there. She was a Protestant, and was for many years with the Public Welfare Department at Warrington [sic; Warrenton], Va. Survivors include a son, J.O. Wright, Birmingham, Mich.; two grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Malban Joiner [sic; Malbon Joyner], Suffolk, Va.; Mrs. A.W. Craft and Mrs. Ruth Lawshe, both of Virginia Beach, VA. John MacAullay CAMERON (b. ca. 1878 Canada) 3 Sep 1932 (Norfolk #680); they div. in 1947. Her paternal grandfather, William Jackson LASSITER, was a Confederate veteran, having served as 4th sergeant in Co. B, 16th VA Infantry. He was wounded 19 Aug 1864 at the Davis Farm, Dinwiddie Co., and died later that mother. His widow Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" (HARRELL) LASSITER, 2m. Stephen Columbus BARTLETT. Widowed again, she applied for a pension 25 Apr 1922. She & Columbus are also buried in Lot 36.
