All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Dr. Corbell, Long Practitioner At Sunbury, Passes Last Night Dr. Edward [sic; Edwin] Ferdinand Corbell, veteran of a half century practice as a country doctor at Sunbury, N.C., and leader in the business and social life of Gates county, died last night at 9:15 o'clock after a brief illness. The physician was 74 years of age. A native of Chuckatuck district, Nansemond county, the son of the late John D. and Elizabeth Phillips Corbell, Dr. Corbell, after completing courses at Virginia Military Institute and his professional training at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins universities, located in Gates county, N.C., to practice. During his long practice he took an active part in the religious, fraternal and business affairs of his section and was well-known in both states. He was president of the Bank of Sunbury, a member of Sunbury Lodge, A.F. and A.M., and of the Episcopal church. Surviving Dr. Corbell are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Lynch, of Great Bridge, Va., and Misses Elizabeth Phillips Corbell and Florine Corbell of Sunbury; two sisters, Mrs. W.F. Cotton of Chuckatuck and Mrs. Ida Eley, of Suffolk. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at the residence in Sunbury by the Rev. E.P. Minor. Burial will be made in the family square at old St. John's Episcopal cemetery at Chuckatuck.
