WILLIAM SETH CROSS

W.S. CROSS, 72, DIES AT SUFFOLK

   Suffolk, Nov. 23 - (AP) - William S. Cross, 72, merchant, churchman and 
businessman of Suffolk, died Thursday of a heart attack at his home on West 
Washington Street, following an illness of several months.

   Mr. Cross was the son of the late Joseph Milton and Mary Norfleet Cross, of 
Gates County, N.C., and until a few months ago for 42 years was engaged in the 
wholesale fruit and produce business in Suffolk.

   Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Grace Vanderslice Cross; a son, William S. 
Cross, Jr., formerly Captain Cross, recently returned from overseas duty with 
the United States Army; a daughter, Mrs. Anne Cross Pearce, of Petersburg; two 
grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. T.A. Jordan, of Suffolk, and a brother, M.A. 
Cross, of Suffolk.

   Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. John 
Blakemore, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church, at Baker Funeral Home. Burial 
will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, with services in charge of the local Elks.
