Funeral services for William Joseph Crocker, well-known Suffolk citizen, identified with the lumber business here and in North Carolina for many years, who died at Protestant Hospital, Norfolk, Saturday night, were conducted from the funeral parlors of R.W. Baker & Co. this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The service at the Saratoga street funeral home and the committal rites at the graveside in Cedar Hill cemetery were conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley and the Rev. H.C. Caviness, of Portsmouth. Mr. Crocker is survived by two sons, Lotzia Crocker, of Norfolk, and William J. Crocker, Jr., of Suffolk; a daughter, Mrs. Ira F. Bennett, of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, James Crocker, of Suffolk and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Crocker had been identified, with the lumber business in Suffolk many years. He was in the employ of the Montgomery Lumber Company both in this city and in North Carolina during the years of that company's operations. About three years ago he went with the Suffolk Lumber Company and remained in their employ until failing health necessitated his retirement. Mr. Crocker has been in bad health for most ot the past year, but only ten days ago did his condition become alarming. He was taken to the Protestant Hospital Friday when his illness took a sudden turn for the worse. Pall-bearers at the funeral were: active: Robert R. Smith, O.W. Sheffield, J.C. Pierce, Claude Eure, Tom Moody and Wallace R. Kilby, of Suffolk; Ralph P. Holland, of Norfolk; and G.C. Wright, of Holland. Honorary; A.L. Jollay, of Holland; John Bunyan Archer, of Chuckatuck; Claude Dennis, Sr., D.L. Sumner, Dr. P.J. Morrison, Dr. J.P. Cross, J.M. Ashley, J.P. Boone, W.L. Smith, J.H. Bangley, J.W. King, and J.C. Powell, all of this city. ELEY, daughter of David & Elizabeth LEWIS, 2m. 29 Nov 1864 in Chesterfield Co. (Petersburg #90) Sarah (1827 - 1900) is also buried in Cedar Hill.
