All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ PHILIP BRINKLEY CROCKER PHILIP CROCKER FOUND DEAD TODAY - BODY DISCOVERED AT LUMBER OFFICE Suffolk, March 7. - Philip Crocker, local lumber executive, was found dead about 6 o'clock this morning at the J.E. Crocker Lumber Company. He was 45 years of age. Crocker was found by a employee of the lumber company, and local officials were summoned. According to the county coroner, Dr. C.H. Dawson, Crocker died of "a self-inflicted gunshot wound and hanging." Dr. Dawson added that Crocker had also slashed his throat and left wrist before he took his life. For many years, Crocker maintained the lumber business, which was established here by his father. A member of the Main Street Methodist Church, Crocker was the son of Mrs. Jane Brinkley and the late James E. Crocker of Nansemond County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anne Jones Crocker; two sons, Robert J. Crocker and James E. Crocker; and his mother, Mrs. J.E. Crocker. The body was taken to R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home.
