CRIDDLE Chester A. Criddle, 66, one of Suffolk's lending antique dealers and for the past 26 years prominent in business in Suffolk, died Sunday morning at the Fitz-Gerald Mercy Hospital, in Philadelphia, Pa., after an illness of several months. Mr. Criddle, who had been in failing health for some time, left two weeks ago, for the Philadelphia hospital. Mr. Criddle was a member of the Suffolk Rotary Club, and took an active part in the civic interests of the city. He had but recently moved into new, and larger quarters on West Washington street. He is survived by one son, A.H. Criddle, and a grandson, A.H. Criddle Jr., both of Philadelphia. The body will arrive in Suffolk Tuesday morning and will be taken to the funeral home of I.O. Hill and Company. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. H.J. Goodwin, D.D., and the Rev. Sam T. Habel, Jr. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************** CHESTER A. CRIDDLE Funeral services for Chester A. Criddle, well-known antique dealer of Suffolk for the past 25 years, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the funeral home of I.O. Hill & Company by Dr. H.J. Goodwin and the Rev. Samuel T. Habel. A quartet composed of Mrs. Claudia Jacobs, Mrs. P.L. Rawles, J.N. Alexander and E.D. Humphries, accompanied by Miss Florrie Pierce, sang the hymns "Rock of Ages"; "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Abide With Me." There were many beautiful floral tributes, and the casket was covered with a pall of lavender and white chrysanthemums and fern. Active pallbearers were M.L. Bradshaw, Dr. C.H. Dawson, Dr. Edward C. Joyner, James E. Babb, Jr., W.S. Beamon, Jr., J.A. Harrell, O.R. Harrell, and J.C. Hege. Interment was in Cedar Hill cemetery. D.Cert. 92402 (Darby #286) gives widowed. He was the son of Robert J. & Isabelle M. (GILLESPIE) CRIDDLE. His father was Postmaster of Shadwell, Albemarle Co. 1870-72. His ex-wife Virginia A. (HAWTHORNE) CRIDDLE (1885 - 1937) is buried in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery Co., PA. They had a still born son 14 Aug 1912 in Portsmouth, buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth.
