Carter Succumbs Early Today Mrs. Hilah Irene Carter, wife of L.F. Carter, died at her home, 205 York Street, this morning at 4:27 o'clock after an illness of several weeks. Besides her husband she is survived by four children, Juanita, Marion, Lermon, Jr., and Marvin Carter, all of Suffolk; three sisters, Mrs. John O. Holland, Mrs. R.D. Johnson, of Holland, Mrs. R.W. Luter, of Suffolk R.F.D.; two brothers, C.E. Holland and L.H. Holland, both of Holland. Funeral services will be held at the grave in the family cemetery near Holland Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Carl Keyes, and Dr. N.G. Newman. ****************************************************************************** MORTUARY Funeral services for Mrs. Hilah Irene Carter were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the grave in the family cemetery near Holland, Va., conducted by the Rev. Carl Keyes, Dr. N.G. Newman, and Dr. John G. Truitt. A quartet composed of Mrs. S.L. Wright, Mrs. Vernon Holland, W.W. Ballard and Rev. Carl Keyes, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Keyes, rendered the hymns "Jesus Lover of My Soul", and "Sometime We'll Understand." There were many beautiful floral tributes, among them a pall of white and pink carnations covering the casket. Active pallbearers were Johnnie Howell, Jodie Howell, Amos Carter, Charlie Holland, William Holland, Willie L. Turner, Bernard Johnson, Emmett Luter. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers.
