All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Rites Tomorrow For James Carter Funeral services for James Nathan Carter, who died at the Lakeview Hospital at 10:30 p.m. last night, will be held at the late residence near Gatesville tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 and will be conducted by the Rev. R.E. Ferguson, assisted by the Rev. T.A. Collins. Mr. Carter was the son of the late Alexander and Mary Miller Carter of Gates, N.C., and the husband of the late Hattie Morris Carter, who died January 6 of this year. He is survived by nine children: Mrs. T.E. Ward of Suffolk, Mrs. C.K. Ward of Norfolk, Mrs. L.H. Rountree of Corapeake, Mrs. Thurman Ellis of Gates, N.C., Mrs. Harold Bustle of Washington; S.B. Carter of Suffolk, J.O. Carter of Ahoskie, E.R. Carter of Powersville, N.C., W.N. Carter of Gates, N.C., and 16[?] grandchildren. The pallbearers will be the grandsons of the deceased. They are James, Hiram, T.E., Gordon and Milbourne Ward, Charles Ellis, Randolph, Fredrick and Rawles Carter and Eldred Rountree. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************** JAMES NATHAN CARTER Gatesville. - Funeral services for James Nathan Carter, 87-year-old farmer of Gatesville, who died Monday, were held from the home Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. R.E. Ferguson officiating, assisted by the Rev. T.A. Collins. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery. Mr. Carter is survived by nine children, Mrs. T.E. Ward of Suffolk, Va., Mrs. C.K. Ward of Norfolk, S.B. Carter of Suffolk, J.O. Carter of Ahoskie, E.R. Carter of Powersville, Mrs. L.H. Rountree of Corapeake, W.N. Carter of Gates, Mrs. T.E. Ellis of Gatesville, N.C., and [Mrs.] Harold Bustle of Washington, D.C; and one sister, Mrs. W.J. Rountree of Hobbsville. Mr. Carter's wife, Mrs. Hattie Carter, died two months ago.
