Carter was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Holland Cemetery by the Rev. L.F. Smith of South Quay Baptist Church. W.J.M Holland & Sons Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were W.C. Burgess, Heber Modlin, Joe Moore, Edwin Evans, Raymond Harrell and Frank Foster. Carter, 79*, died Monday morning in a Williamsburg hospital. A native of Hertford County, N.C., he lived [here] most of his life. He was the husband of the late* Mrs. Fannie Martin Carter and a son of Joseph Edward and Mrs. Ida Worrell Carter. He was a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como, N.C. Surviving are two sons, Homer W. Carter of Huntington Beach, Calif., and L.O. Carter of Stony Creek; six daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Modlin and Mrs. Barbara Harrell of Franklin, Mrs. Emily Howard and Mrs. Jean Worrell of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Marjorie Burgess, and Mrs. Juliett Moore of Richmond; and 13 grandchildren.
