MARKS CARTER IS FOUND DEAD 

Local Man Dies From Gas Fumes 

  SUFFOLK, Feb. 6 - Funeral services for Marks M. Carter, 49, who was found 
dead in bed at his home, 212 Central Avenue, yesterday afternoon, will be 
conducted Thursday at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home. 

  The services, to be conducted by. Dr. S.T. Habel, will be held at 2:30 p.m. 
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

  Carter’s body was found yesterday afternoon by his wife and their son-in-
law, Russell Hancock.  Four gas jets in the kitchen stove were open and the 
house was filled with gas. 

  Firemen attempted to revive Carter with a pulmotor, but were unsuccessful. 

  Mrs. Carter said she had last seen her husband at about 9:30 yesterday 
morning. 

  Besides his wife, Mrs. Rosa March Carter, the deceased is survived by his 
father, James E. Carter, of Pulaski; one daughter, Mrs. Russell Hancock, of 
Suffolk; three brothers, R.H. and C.E. Carter, of Charlottesville, and J.R. 
Carter, of Wilmington, N.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Kidd and Mrs. George 
Thompson, of Charlottesville.

   son of James E. & Mary Bell (WELISH) CARTER; husband of Rosa Rosser 
   (MARSH) CARTER. 

His parents, James Edgar & Mary Belle (WILCHER) CARTER, are buried in 
   Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan, Botetourt Co. 
   His father's 1951 obit is posted with Find a Grave Mem. #173835806; 
   his mother's photo & 1943 D.Cert. are posted with Mem. #173835829.
