All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN EDWARDS CARROLL Rites in Suffolk For John Carroll GATES, N.C., Feb. 15 - Funeral services for John Edwards Carroll, 57, who died Friday at a Norfolk hospital after a short illness, will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Reynoldson Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Oscar D. Edmonds, assisted by the Rev. R.T. Commander, of the Gates Methodist Church, officating. Interment will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. The body will remain at the Rountree and Hofler Funeral Home in Gatesville this afternoon until 12:30 p.m., at which time it will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jennie Cross Carroll; two sons, J.C. Carroll, Gates, N.C., and R.J. Carroll, of Columbia, Tennessee; his mother, Mrs. Nina Carroll Ellis, Gates, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. George T. Ellis, of Whaleyville; a grandson, Bobby Carroll, of Columbia, Tenn.; two nephews, John C. Ellis, of Hampton, and Jarvis Ellis, of Chester, Va.; several cousins. James is also buried in Holly Lawn, with his parents. He appears in the 1900 Census - Reynoldson Twp., Gates Co., NC - as John E. EDWARDS, with his widowed mother and her parents. John's mother Nina Elizabeth (EDWARDS) CARROLL 2m. Mills ELLIS; they are buried in Reynoldson Baptist Church Cemetery, Reynoldson, Gates Co., NC. Nina's parents John A. & Elizabeth C. (GOODMAN) EDWARDS, and John's in-laws "Charlie" Charles Edward & Claudia Penina (GOODMAN) CROSS are also buried there.
