All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Mrs. Crumpler's Funeral Is Held Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Matthews Crumpler, who died here Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Marshall, at 336 Cedar Street, were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. C.T. Topping, pastor of the Oxford Methodist Church, officiated at the services and the interment which followed in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Chuckatuck. The pall was of white and pink carnations. Pallbearers were J.R. Chapman, Wilson Spady, John Kelly, Paul Godwin, John Godwin, and Davis Lee Godwin. Mary J. (MATTHEWS*; Mrs. George W.) Mary & George m. 25 Jan 1888 in Isle of Wight Co. Her parents, James Copeland & Georgeanna (TURNER) MATTHEWS, are buried in Uzzell Methodist Church Cemetery. F, 9th VA Infantry. George's parents, Matthew & Rowena F. (TURNER) CRUMPLER, are buried unmarked in Newman Memorial Cemetery, Oakland Christian Church Cemetery, Chuckatuck. George's half-brother Julius Benjamin CRUMPLER (1845 - 1926) is also buried there. He was also a Confederate veteran, having served with Lt. Roy's Independent Scouts.
