Captain William Oscar Cramer, whose shipping and shipbuilding activities during the last half of the nineteenth century made Suffolk an important inland port, died at his country home on the Norfolk road yesterday at the age of 88 years. A seafarer from a long line of ship captains and boat builders, the family operating a shipyard before the American Revolution, Captain Cramer, small in stature but hearty and full of spirit, went down to the sea in ships when masters were masters. He built his own ships at his yards here, the Suffolk Shipbuilding Co., which flourished from 1895 to 1900. Born at Lower Bank, N.J., in January 1845, the son of Captain Richard Cramer and Mrs. Marianne Van Sandt Cramer, Captain Cramer as a youth went to sea and rose to command ships engaged in world trade. Three of the ships built in Suffolk and commanded by Captain Cramer were lost at sea, the Charles B. Lee, the Annie E. Cramer and the Charles B. Holden. Captain Cramer had retired some years ago, from advanced years, and spent his time at his country home near Suffolk. Surviving him are one son, Alfred B. Cramer, of this city; two grandsons, A.B. Cramer, Jr., and William Cramer, of Norfolk; one great-grandson, A.B. Cramer, 3d.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Pullen, of Tuckerton, N.J., and Mrs. Ella Montgomery, of Haddonfield, N.J., and a number of nieces and nephews. He had been in feeble health for some time, but was able to come down this morning, dying from a sudden heart attack. He was a member of the Main Street Methodist church and of the Fellowship Bible class. Funeral services will be held at the grave in Cedar Hill cemetery this afternoon at 3 o'clock. He will be buried by the side of his wife, who preceded him to the grave eight years ago. The services will be conducted by the pastor of the church, the Rev. J.T. Allen. Active pallbearers will be the two grandsons of the deceased, A.B. Cramer, Jr., and William Cramer, of Norfolk; C.D. Andrews, Charles L. Hutchins, M.K. Kendrick, Robert Nelms, I.P. Brinkley and T. Alex Jordan, of Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** CAPT. W. O. CRAMER Suffolk, March 9. - Funeral services for Capt. William O.
