DAVIDSON John A. Davidson, 72, well-known farmer of Nansemond County, died at his home, "Cherry Grove," near Franklin May 31, after a short illness. Mr. Davidson was the son of the late Mrs. Lavinia Jones and Smith Taylor Davidson of North Carolina, moving to this state 60 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Austin Davidson; three daughters, Mrs. F.A. Jones of New Bern, N.C., Mrs. H.G. Councill and Mrs. Joe Lloyd of Franklin; five sons, Harry Davidson of Holland, John A., Jr. of Central Village, Conn., Smith T., of Martinsville, and Claude and Wilford Davidson of Franklin, and a number to grandchildren. Funeral services were held from his residence Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock by the Rev. W.H. Corbitt of Holland, assisted by Dr. Elwood W. Jones of Franklin. During the services William Darden of Holland sang "At the End of the Road" and "Abide with Me." The services were largely attended and there were many floral offerings, the casket being covered with a spray of lilies and roses. Burial was made in the family cemetery, active pallbearers being his sons, Claude, Harry, John A. Jr., Smith and Wilford Davidson, and F.A. Jones, H.G. Councill and Clyde Howell.
