MRS. DORA LANKFORD DUKE 

  Mrs. Dora Lankford Duke, 83, died at 2:10 a.m. in a Chesapeake nursing home. 
She was a widow of Henry E. Duke and the daughter of Jodie and Emma Duke 
Lankford.  A native of Isle of Wight County, she was a member of the Beaver 
Dam Baptist Church. 

  She is survived by: two daughters, Miss Dora Elizabeth Duke of Williamsburg 
and Mrs. H.C. Cole of Portsmouth; one son, Joseph Henry Duke of Suffolk, with 
whom she made her home; two sisters, Mrs. Elvin Whitley and Mrs. N.H. 
Bradshaw, both of Carrsville; one brother, Gardner Lankford of Portsmouth; 
five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

  A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the I.O. Hill & Co. 
Funeral Home by the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton Jr., pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist 
Church.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Dora & Henry were first cousins.  Their grandfather Henry Harrison DUKE 
   (1827 - 1908) is marked there (BD-32).  He was a Confederate veteran, 
   having served in Co. F, 61st VA Infantry.  He was wounded 27 Oct 1864 at 
   Burgess' Mill, Dinwiddie Co., and paroled 27 Apr 1865 in Isle of Wight Co.
