All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HENRY ELISHA DUKE Funeral services for Henry Elisha [sic*] Duke, of 329 Pinner Street, who died Thursday morning at the Patrick Henry Hospital, were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home. The Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of the Bethlehem Christian Church, and the Rev. Edward Thornton, pastor of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, conducted the services. Interment took place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Brittle read two poems, "Crossing the Bar" and "The House by the Side of the Road." Miss Ann Nelson, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Webb Pinner, sang "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Sunrise." The pall was of Easter lilies, white carnations, red gladioli and baby's breath. Pallbearers were Matthews Duke, Roger Duke, Clifford Holland, Raby Holland, Harrell Whitley, Willie Lee Bradshaw, David Lankford, J.A. Holland, Roland Whitley and Hudson Lankford. He was wounded 27 Oct 1864 at Burgess' Mill, Dinwiddie Co., and paroled 27 Apr 1865 in Isle of Wight Co.
